School Fire in Bhadra Bazaar Destroys Seven Years of Records at Seth Sagarmal Surana Jain Girls Senior Secondary School
A late-night fire at Seth Sagarmal Surana Jain Girls Senior Secondary School in Bhadra Bazaar destroyed furniture, computers, electrical fittings, and seven years of official records. The school, which educates about 1,150 girls, narrowly avoided a major tragedy as the blaze erupted after classes had ended.
The school, which provides education to approximately 1,150 girls, was engulfed in flames around 10 p.m. when the night watchman noticed smoke and alerted the school management. Trustee Devendra Daga said he reached the premises shortly after receiving the information, while fire brigade teams and police were also informed immediately.
According to preliminary information, the fire is believed to have originated near the main gate, where the primary electrical connection switch distributes power throughout the campus. An electrical fault at this point reportedly sparked the blaze, which quickly spread to the hall and the record room.
Three fire brigade vehicles were deployed to the scene. After nearly one and a half hours of intense efforts, firefighters succeeded in bringing the fire under control. By then, substantial damage had already occurred.
The most significant loss was in the record room, where documents and institutional records accumulated over the past seven years were completely reduced to ashes. Authorities are now examining the extent of the destruction and assessing which records can be recovered or reconstructed.
In addition to the documents, the fire destroyed electrical installations, ceiling fans, cupboards, computers, furniture, and other essential infrastructure within the hall. School officials are conducting a detailed assessment to determine the total financial loss.
On Saturday morning, parents and members of the school management committee gathered at the campus to inspect the aftermath and review the damage.
The incident has raised serious concerns about electrical safety in educational institutions. While no casualties were reported due to the fire occurring at night, the destruction of critical records and infrastructure has dealt a severe blow to one of the area's prominent girls' schools.
